ICAN Be Safe At Home - No Hitter Launch

"LA DA and Sheriff to be Recognized for Child Abuse Prevention Efforts"

District Attorney Jackie Lacey and Sheriff Jim McDonnell will be among five people recognized at Monday evening’s Los Angeles Dodgers game for their roles in preventing child abuse in Los Angeles County. Deanne Tilton Durfee, the executive director of the Inter-Agency Council on Child Abuse and Neglect, Baseball Hall of Fame member Joe Torre and his wife Ali will also be recognized in connection with Child Abuse Awareness Night. The “No Hitters” public education campaign to highlight Child Abuse Prevention Month is being conducted this month by the District Attorney’s Office, Sheriff’s Department and Inter-Agency Council on Child Abuse and Neglect, the official county body to coordinate the multi-agency development of services for the identification, prevention and treatment and prosecution of child abuse and neglect. A public service announcement from the campaign will be shown at Dodger Stadium before Monday’s game against the Miami Marlins. The campaign has also included social media posts about the various aspects of child abuse. It also places emphasis on how to report the maltreatment of a minor. “The well-being of children in our communities depends on each of us and, if ever we believe a child is at risk of physical, sexual and emotional abuse or neglect, it is our responsibility to alert authorities,” Lacey said. Torre, whose 29-year managerial career ended by managing the Dodgers from 2008-2010, and his wife founded the Joe Torre Safe at Home Foundation in 2002 to provide services to youth who have been traumatized by exposure to violence, including domestic violence, child abuse, teen dating abuse and sexual assault. Its goal is to end the cycle of domestic abuse.
